What is a natal chart?

A natal chart is not your “sign.” It is a freeze-frame of the sky from one latitude and longitude, on one date, at one time if you have it. Everything else — personality essays, yearly forecasts, meme infographics — is commentary sitting on that freeze-frame.

What the map actually contains

Planets (including Sun and Moon) occupy zodiac signs of 30° each. Aspects are angles between those planets — conjunction, square, trine, opposition, and the rest. Houses are twelve life-rooms that only lock when the Ascendant is known, which needs a clock time and a place.

People argue online about whole sign versus Placidus as if the software vendor were a religion. We state the house system in the PDF so you are not guessing. The interpretive job is not to win a forum. It is to say, in order: what is loud in this sky, what is quiet, what repeats in the biography you already lived.

A natal chart does not “give you” a career. It shows how you tend to work, lead, hide, and spend. If a reading promises a job title, it is selling a different product than this one.

How we calculate it

Swiss Ephemeris is a high-precision planetary calculator derived from NASA/JPL data. Aurora Tikun feeds it your date, place, and time (or noon/unknown-time protocol if the clock is missing). The wheel on the page is that output. A language model may help phrase the prose; it does not invent 17° Virgo because it “sounds right.”

Place matters because the local horizon defines the Ascendant. Date without place still gives planetary signs. Time without place is a broken input. If you were born in a village that changed names, we use the coordinates, not the nostalgia.

Time zones and wartime clocks are where amateur sites go wrong. We do not crowd this article with every 1940s Mexican clock reform. If your birth certificate is messy, say so on the form; the reading will mark what is solid and what is estimated.

Birth time vs no birth time

With a hospital time, houses and the rising sign become available. Without it, we still read the planetary conversation. Moon may be in a late degree that could have changed signs that day — we say so instead of pretending certainty.

What a reading is for

How to read the PDF you get

Start with the wheel, then the list of placements, then the prose. If you only read the prose you will miss when a sentence is anchored to an orb. If you only stare at the wheel you will invent a story about a planet that is actually unaspected and quiet.

Useful order: luminaries, then the tightest aspect, then Saturn (because Saturn is where people lie to themselves), then the rest. Skip straight to “career” and you will overfit a house that may not even be certain if your birth time is shaky.

Keep a notebook of three biographical facts that match and one that does not. Send the mismatch on WhatsApp if it is a calculation error (wrong city, wartime clock). Do not send it if it is “I do not like how Saturn sounds.” Saturn does not care.

Myths this page will not feed

Mercury retrograde in your natal chart does not mean you were born broken. A 12th-house Sun does not mean you must become a mystic. An empty house is not a hole in the soul; it is a room with less traffic.

Compatibility is not “fire dating water.” Two charts compared with aspects between them is a different product. See the compatibility reading if that is the actual question. This pillar stays on one birth.

AI chat windows will cheerfully draw you a chart from a poem. That drawing is entertainment. A degree is either computed or it is cosplay. We pick computed.

Birth data from Mexico and the US

Mexican actas sometimes omit hour. US long-form certificates often include it; wallet cards often do not. If you were born at sea or in a village that later changed municipality, write the story in the notes. Coordinates beat nostalgia.

Daylight saving and historical offsets are why we do not let a language model “just assume Central Time.” The ephemeris library gets a timezone database. You get a sentence if we had to estimate.

Dual citizens asking which country’s “energy” they are: neither chart software nor Kabbalah issues passports. You live in a body that can board a plane. The map can talk about both skies only if you order relocation, which is the astrocartography product, not this one.

Transits, briefly, so we do not oversell them

A natal chart is the frozen sky. Transits are the sky now, talking to that freeze-frame. A Saturn transit to natal Sun can feel like a performance review that lasts eighteen months. It is still not a verdict that you failed as a person. The natal PDF may mention a current outer-planet weather if it is loud. It is not a daily horoscope subscription.

Secondary progressions and solar arcs are extra techniques. If they appear, they are labeled. If they do not, we did not forget your soul — we kept the document readable.

Eclipses get internet hysteria. An eclipse is a lunation near a node. If it does not aspect your chart tightly, it is a news event, not a personal plot twist. We would rather under-write an eclipse than join a panic cycle for clicks.

Gifting a chart

You may buy a natal reading for a partner if they know. Surprise charts of people who did not consent are not a service we want to be good at. Children: only with a parent who will actually raise them, not as a party trick at a baby shower.

Include the recipient’s preferred name spelling. Charts are not a place to deadname someone for “legal accuracy” if they asked otherwise. The ephemeris needs a date and a place. It does not need a dead name.

One more working habit: when two astrologers disagree, ask what data they used before you ask who is more spiritual. Wrong city beats wrong philosophy. Wrong time beats both. Our job is to keep the data trail visible so you can fire us if we missed a timezone.
